Construction on Memorial’s new Hans E. Einstein, M.D. Pavilion is underway and is a multi-phased project scheduled for completion in Summer 2012. Renovations include a modern exterior, interior hospital entrance with canopied areas for patients and visitors, enhanced lobby area, improved parking and circular drive for patient drop off and pick up. Memorial will be open and fully operational during construction.
The pavilion honors Dr. Hans Einstein, a pioneer and foremost authority on Coccidioidomycosis, better known as Valley Fever. Dr. Einstein has devoted decades to developing a vaccine for the potentially fatal airborne disease and is a celebrated member of our community, receiving a number of awards and recognitions for his generosity and good will to Kern County.

Questions & Answers
Where will the temporary entrance be located? During Phases II, III and IV patients and visitors may use a temporary front hospital entrance located West of the pavilion construction zone.

How will parking be affected?
A portion of the patient & visitors parking lot located at 34th and San Dimas Streets will be closed to traffic during construction however all other lots will remain open. You may only access the main parking lot off San Dimas Street.
Will Memorial Hospital Drive be closed?
Yes. Memorial Hospital Drive, the driveway into the hospital’s main entrance, will remain closed to traffic during all Phases of construction. It is expected to reopen in February of 2012. You may enter the front parking lot off San Dimas.
Where is the Gift Shop?
Due to construction, the Gift Shop has been temporarily relocated to the Staff Lounge Conference Room across from the Courtyard Café.
Will any hospital services be affected during construction?
No. The hospital will remain open and fully operational for the duration of the construction.
