Center for Wound Care and Hyperbarics

If you are suffering the effects of a non-healing wound, Bakersfield Memorial Hospital's Center for Wound Care & Hyperbarics is here to help. Our team of doctors and nurses is dedicated to treating wounds, including many that have resisted healing after months and even years of traditional treatment. It's all we do. In fact, the Center for Wound Care & Hyperbarics helps many patients recover in just a few months, and it is all done in an outpatient setting.

In 2007, over 5 million Americans will be kept from doing things they love because of chronic wounds caused by diabetes, poor circulation, or other conditions, and over 12,500 of those people live right here in Kern County. The good news is that cutting edge wound care technology is close at hand here at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital.

Time doesn't necessarily heal all wounds, so it is important to know the warning signs of potentially chronic, slow-healing wounds. If you have a wound that hasn't started to get significantly better in a month, or healed entirely in two months, the Center for Wound Care & Hyperbarics can help you. Many conditions benefit from Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, including:

  • diabetic foot ulcers
  • lower leg ulcers
  • pressure ulcers
  • bone infection (osteomyelitis)
  • gangrene
  • chronic skin tears or lacerations
  • radiation burns post-operative infections circulatory problems
  • slow-healing surgical wounds
  • failing or compromised skin or muscle grafts or flaps
  • any wound failing to heal in more than 30 days
  • any wound which has not responded to multiple treatments or therapies

At the Center for Wound Care & Hyperbarics, we respect the relationship between you and your doctor. That is why our staff stays in close contact with your doctor. After all, we share the same goal -- healing your wound so you can start enjoying your lifestyle again.

If you or someone you care about is suffering from a chronic, slow-healing wound, please contact the Center for Wound Care & Hyperbarics at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital today at (661) 327-5150.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) involves the systematic delivery of 100% oxygen to patients for 90 minutes in a chamber pressurized two to three times above normal atmospheric pressure, which helps the body fight infection and promotes healing.

How does it work?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy dramatically increases the amount of oxygen in your blood, which then circulates to body tissues delivering up to 15 times more oxygen to damaged tissues thus speeding the healing process.

What happens during Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?

During Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, a patient reclines in a pressurized chamber as high doses of oxygen are delivered throughout the blood allowing rapid healing of affected tissue. Just relax, watch television, or take a nap -- the treatment is virtually painless and free of side effects.
