Bakersfield's First Children's Hospital Here at Memorial.
Babies, toddlers, children and teens all have different healthcare needs, and these change rapidly as they grow. That's why the Children's Medical Center at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital was created: to address the unique requirements of young patients. We provide a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for newborns and preemies, 24/7 in-house pediatricians (hospitalists) and a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for infants and older children. (Opens late 2011).
The Children's Medical Center is the first hospital facility in the Bakersfield area dedicated to pediatrics. We'll operate the only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in Kern County. Previously, children had to be driven or flown long distances to get the specialty care they needed. Now, that care is available close to home, making it easier, more comfortable and more practical for patients, their families, caregivers and primary care physicians as well.
