Children's Medical Center

Imagine your child or grandchild facing a medical crisis due to serious illness or injury. Imagine your concern, uncertainty and fear. You would do anything in the world to comfort your child and provide him or her with the best specialized care.

Imagine the doctor telling you that your loved one must be transferred to a hospital more than one hundred miles away to receive Pediatric Intensive Care. Every year, hundreds of families in our community face this heartbreaking moment.

Imagine a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital.

The Children's Medical Center will provide care to countless pediatric patients. The NICU, new PICU and expanded Acute Care Pediatrics Department will offer specialized services that our children need. Now is the time to make the Children's Medical Center a reality and change the face of healthcare for the children of Kern County.

The Children's Medical Center, another Center of Excellence at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital, will include:

• The only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in the Southern San Joaquin Valley.
• An expanded Pediatrics Department for acute care patients.
• The recently expanded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) which provides state of the art care for our tiniest patients.
• Outpatient specialty clinics on the BMH campus, which will provide services such as pediatric cardiology and endocrinology and a high-risk infant follow-up clinic to track NICU patients after discharge.
